Holiday home at one of the best salmon fishing rivers of Sweden

Make Gargnäs the starting point for the big adventure. Breathe deeply and experience the feeling of real freedom. The air is clean, the water clear, the stillness phenomenal.
The rivers continue to take the same way as they did already for thousands of years. It is here, where the wind is whispering your name.
The area around Gargnäs offers during all times of the year both stillness and adventure. Nature here is typical for Northern Sweden, somewhat rough/harsh, but at the same time enchanting and majestic.

The rivers Vindelälven, Juktan and Laisälven, part of our national heritage, are well known for the extremely good opportunities for fishing. In addition there are hundreds of smaller rivers and streams as well as lakes of different size which can be discovered.

Also those people who only want to enjoy nature in a peaceful way, have an enormous offer available, which is given by nature. Here you can go on a hiking tour through forests which are already advanced in years, go on a tour with a dog sledge or snowmobile or start a canoe tour in the evening, directly from the camping and hut area of your hosts.

In a starry winter night in the open air you feel yourself very small as a human being. At the firmament thousands of stars are twinkling and if you listen really exactly, you can hear how the northern lights crackle and the ice sings.
Here you will not find any disturbing sources of light. The Pole Star, Orion and the Great Bear twinkle with the whole of their impressive splendor.
If you want to experience a winter night still more intensive, you should go skiing at moonlight for some time and afterwards warm up again in the sauna.

Light summer nights, not ending days. During the time around midsummer the nights are the lightest. The birch wood smells and it begins the time where everything is in blossom in an intensive way. In the mountain the snow is melting and the meltwater roars through the rapids of the unregulated Vindelälven on the way down to the sea.

The small village of Gargnäs as an island/spit of land is surrounded by water. On one side there is the lake Hemsjön, which is rich in fish, and on the other side the river Gargån, which is popular with people who like to go fishing. 5 minutes by car away you will find the salmon river Vindelälven, one of five unregulated wild rivers of Sweden with numerous rapids.
There are a lot of opportunities for leisure activities, like boat or canoe tours, fishing , swimming or cycle tours. In the village there is a place for bathing with sandy beach, diving platform and water slide. The offers for leisure activities will be completed by a crazy golf facility. In winter you will find here a cross-country ski run. In the surrounding you can book dog-sled rides or motorized sleigh tours (snowmobiling). In the next village, about 45 minutes by car away, there is a ski lift.

The historical Timmerhuset (log cabin) was converted into a holiday home and has been completely renovated in 2011. An open fire invites to cosy evenings. 2 bedrooms with 2 beds each make it possible that up to four persons can stay here. Owners of dogs are welcome with their pleasant four-legged friends.

For people who are self-catering, the holiday home is furnished/equipped with a complete open kitchen-cum-living-room with 4 hotplates, fridge, sink and coffee machine. In front of the hut there are seats for an outdoor breakfast or barbecue evenings. In the village you will find a grocer´s shop.

Infos about the region Lapland

Lapland is Sweden’s biggest and most northern historical province and has borders with Norway and Finland. The province has less than 1 inhabitant per square kilometer and comprises more than one fourth of Sweden’s land area.
Lapland is the province of contrasts: There is Sweden’s highest mountain, the Kebnekaise, as well as Sweden’s deepest lake, the Hornavan. While there is permafrost in the mountain areas, temperatures of 25 degrees centigrade can easily be reached in summer in the lower areas. But not only considering the climate the differences in this area are huge; you will even find a large diversity in the languages spoken in this area. Next to Swedish, there are the minority languages Finnish, Sami and the Finnish Meänkieli dialect. Many villages and cities have Sami or Meänkieli names. The Sami, the native population of this area, had their first nomad settlements along the rivers and lakes of this area maybe already 9000 years ago.
The county can even provide UNESCO world heritage: the Laponian area, consisting of 4 national parks and 2 nature preserves. In general, Norrbottens län can be seen as one huge nature preserve. In the whole province, there are 165 nature preserves, 47 protection areas for birds and 8 national parks, which make out more than 90% of all Sweden’s nature preservation areas.
The cold winter climate allows some very unusual attractions: Every fall there is an ice hotel built in Jukkasjärvi, approximately 200 km north of the arctic circle.
So, if you wish to spend your holiday in a lonely nature, Lapland is the right place for you. If you don’t mind frost, then you will have the biggest chances to see an Aurora in Norrbotten in winter. And in summer, when it can be even warmer than 25 degrees north of the arctic circle, you can see the Midnight Sun.
